Revalue Yourself.
A Lecture in the Voice & Spirit of Neville Goddard
Man has placed too little value upon himself. He looks out upon his world and sees giants—circumstances that tower over him, conditions that dwarf him, limitations that seem immovable—and in his own sight he feels himself a grasshopper. Yet the truth is far simpler and far more glorious than he has ever dared to imagine. The world you see is nothing more than the out-picturing of your present conception of yourself. Change that conception inwardly, raise it, revalue it until the new estimate feels completely natural, and the whole world will at once reflect the higher valuation.
You are the conceiver. You have always been greater than any conception you have ever held of yourself. Your awareness of being is the Father, and that awareness is unlimited, formless, faceless, and free. But you have clothed it in a limited conception of yourself, and that conception has become your measuring rod. Everything in your world is measured by it. Every relationship, every event, every condition of health or wealth or circumstance stands in exact proportion to the value you have secretly placed upon yourself. You and your conception of yourself are one. You cannot be to others what you are not first to yourself.
Therefore, begin now to revalue yourself. Not by words spoken aloud, not by loud affirmations that merely confirm the opposite, but by a silent, steady, inner act of revaluation. Withdraw your attention from the evidence of the senses that seems so real, from the problems that appear so giant-like, and turn it wholly to the feeling of being the one you desire to be. Feel yourself to be the giant, the center of power, the one who is already that which the world has denied you. Dwell there in consciousness until the feeling becomes natural. Then, and only then, will the outer world rearrange itself in harmony with the new measure you have placed upon yourself.
This is not a theory. This is the law of your own being. Consciousness is the only reality, and your conception of yourself is the mold into which consciousness pours its infinite power. You have been pouring that power into a small mold, a limited conception, and wondering why your world remains small and limited. Raise the mold. Expand the conception. Revalue yourself, and the power that is forever flowing through you will automatically fill the new and larger mold.
You are one with your present conception of yourself, but you are infinitely greater than that conception. The “I AM” that you are is the Father, and the Father is greater than the son who bears witness of Him. Your present self is the son, the limited expression; your awareness of being is the Father, the unlimited source. To revalue yourself is simply to return to the Father, to stand in the formless awareness of being, and from that formless deep to assume the new and higher conception. Feel yourself to be the man or woman you would be if every desire were already fulfilled. Do not ask how it will happen. Do not concern yourself with the ways and means. The how is not your concern. Your concern is to revalue yourself until the new feeling is natural.
In the quiet of your own consciousness, right now, you can begin. Take your attention away from what you have been, away from the evidence that would keep you bound to the old valuation, and let the feeling of the new self rise and claim you. Magnify the Lord within you. The Lord is your awareness of being. To magnify Him is to revalue or expand your present conception of yourself to the point where this revaluation becomes natural. Do not force it. Do not strain. Simply relax into the feeling of being the greater one, the freer one, the more abundant one, the healed and happy one. Let the feeling grow until it feels completely natural, as natural as the feeling you now have of being the limited self you have accepted for so long.
You have been playing the losing game by attempting to change the world without first changing the conception of yourself. You have tried to rearrange the shadows on the wall while leaving the projector untouched. But the world is only the shadow cast by your conception of self. Change the conception and the shadow changes instantly. Revalue yourself and they—the people, the conditions, the circumstances—will confirm the change. They have no choice. They are only messengers telling you who you are. When you revalue yourself they will speak a new language, the language of the new valuation.
Do not look outside for confirmation. Confirmation will come, but it comes after the inner revaluation has been made natural. The outer world is slow only because you have been slow to change the inner conception. Once the new valuation is fixed in consciousness, once it feels natural to be the greater one, the outer world must and will reflect it. It cannot do otherwise. Life is forever faithful to your conception of yourself. It has no other way of expressing.
You may feel at this moment that the giants are still there, that the old limitations still press upon you. That is only because you have not yet fully revalued yourself. The giants are in your own sight because you first saw yourself as a grasshopper. You were in your own sight a grasshopper, and therefore you were to the giants a grasshopper. But the moment you revalue yourself and begin to feel yourself to be the giant, a center of power, those former giants are dwarfed into insignificance. They shrink to the size of grasshoppers because you have changed the measuring rod.
This revaluation is the real meaning of being born again. To be born again is to leave behind the old conception of yourself and assume the new. Except you do this, you cannot enter the kingdom of harmony and fulfillment. The kingdom is not a place. It is a state of consciousness where your conception of yourself is so high, so natural, so completely accepted that the outer world must mirror it. You enter that kingdom the moment the new conception feels natural. Until then you remain outside, looking through the bars of your own limited valuation.
Tonight, before you go to sleep, practice this revaluation. Lie down in the quiet of your room and withdraw your attention from the body, from the room, from the problems of the day. Let the whole world of the senses fade. Rest in the formless awareness of being. Then, from that deep and quiet place, assume the feeling of being the one you truly desire to be. Feel it. Not as something you will be, but as something you are now. Feel the naturalness of it. Feel the ease, the freedom, the power, the joy that belongs to that higher valuation. Let that feeling clothe you completely. Sleep in that feeling. Let it be the last thing in consciousness as you drift into sleep. That is the seed dropped into the subconscious. That is the new conception made natural.
Do not rise in the morning and test it by the old measure. Do not look for immediate signs. The signs follow; they do not precede. Simply persist in the new valuation. Every time the old conception tries to assert itself, gently withdraw your attention from it and return to the feeling of the new self. Each time you do this you are revaluing yourself a little more. Each time the new feeling becomes a little more natural. And as it becomes natural, the world begins to reflect it.
You are the vine and your conceptions are the branches. What you are conscious of being is the vine. The branches—your conditions, your world—have no life except as they are rooted in your conception of yourself. Withdraw attention from the old branch and it withers. Pour your attention into the new conception and it grows and bears fruit abundantly. This is the law. It is exact. It is changeless.
Man has placed too little value upon himself because he has looked upon himself as the body, as the personality, as the limited human being struggling in a world of opposites. But you are not the body. You are not the personality. You are the awareness of being, the I AM, wearing the body and the personality as a garment. The garment has limitations, but the wearer does not. Revalue the wearer. Know yourself just to be, and then assume the new and higher conception. The garment will be cut to fit the new measure.
You are constantly drawing to yourself that which you are conscious of being. Change your conception of yourself from the limited to the unlimited, from the poor to the rich, from the bound to the free, from the sick to the whole, and you will automatically draw the corresponding conditions. Not by laboring to change the conditions, but by revaluing the self that is their source.
This is the secret the world has missed. It has tried to change the world by changing the world. It has fought giants with the weapons of grasshoppers. But you are now being shown the true way. Revalue yourself. Raise your conception of yourself inwardly until it feels completely natural. Do it tonight. Do it every night. Do it in the quiet moments of the day. Make the new valuation your dwelling place. Live in it. Move in it. Have your being in it. Then watch, without anxiety, as the outer world conforms to the inner measure you have set.
There is no power outside of your own consciousness. There is no force that can oppose the revaluation you make within. The only power is your awareness of being, and that power is forever flowing through the mold you hold before it—your conception of yourself. Hold the higher mold. Revalue yourself. Feel the naturalness of the new self. And the power that moves the stars will move through that new conception and objectify it in your world.
You are greater than any conception you will ever have of yourself. You are the Father, and the Father is greater than the son. But the son bears witness of the Father. Therefore let the son you now express be a worthy witness. Let him be the giant. Let him be the center of power. Let him be the one who walks in freedom and abundance and joy. Revalue yourself until this is natural, and the witness will be perfect.
The world is a mirror. It reflects with absolute fidelity the value you have placed upon yourself. Raise that value. Revalue yourself. Do not wait for tomorrow. Do not wait for a more convenient time. The time is now. The place is here, in the silent privacy of your own consciousness. Go within. Revalue yourself. Assume the feeling of the higher self. Make it natural. Sleep in it. Wake in it. Live in it.
And as surely as the sun rises, your world will rise to meet the new valuation. The giants will shrink. The grasshopper sense will vanish. The limitations will dissolve. The abundance, the health, the harmony, the freedom you have secretly claimed as your true nature will appear. Not because you struggled for them, but because you revalued the self that is their source.
This is the gospel. This is the good news. Man has placed too little value upon himself. But now you know. Now you can begin. Now you can revalue yourself. Raise your conception of yourself inwardly until it feels natural, and life will reflect that higher valuation. It cannot do otherwise. For you and your conception of yourself are one, and the world is but the out-picturing of that one.
Go now into the silence of your own being. Revalue yourself. Feel the new and higher self. Let it become completely natural. And when you have done so, you will know, with a quiet and unshakable certainty, that the change has already occurred. The new world is already forming. The new valuation is already being reflected. For consciousness is the only reality, and you have changed the only thing that matters—your conception of yourself.
You are the Lord. You are the awareness of being. Revalue yourself, and you will see the glory of the Lord. Not tomorrow, but now. Not in some distant future, but this very night, as you lie down to sleep in the new and higher conception of yourself. Sleep in that feeling. Wake in that feeling. Live in that feeling.
And the world will confirm what you have done.
You have revalued yourself.
The giants are gone.
The grasshopper sense is no more.
You are the giant.
You are the center of power.
You are the one who is free.
This is the truth.
This is the law.
This is your freedom.
Revalue yourself, and be free.
